Gilchrist changes colours...

Couple of days back Adam Gilchrist accused Sachin Tendulkar of being a liar & a spoilt sport.

Now he says he didn't call Sachin a liar.

Quite a fast turn-around...

Here is what he had to say earlier,

Gilchrist called his evidence a "joke" and said when Tendulkar told the first
hearing that he could not hear what Harbhajan said to Andrew Symonds, he was
"certain he was telling the truth" because he was "a fair way away". But,
Gilchrist added, during the appeal, Tendulkar said Harbhajan had used a Hindi
word that sounded like monkey.

But now he says,

All I stated are the facts that everyone knows, that initially Sachin mentioned
he wasn't sure what Harbhajan had said, then later confirmed his support when
Harbhajan said he'd used a Hindi word in the heated exchange with Symonds.
Nowhere do I accuse Sachin of lying.

If Gilchrist thinks that Sachin had changed his testimony during the appeal, then it is obvious that he thinks that on one of the occasion he had lied. Which implies that he has accused Sachin of lying. Isn't it too obvious?

Gilchrist also raised questions over Tendulkar's sportsmanship and said he was
"hard to find for a changing-room handshake after we have beaten India.
Harbhajan can also be hard to find.

Now he says,

Gilchrist said the references to Tendulkar not shaking his hand in the changing
rooms after Tests were merely to highlight the cultural differences between the
two countries. He said he never intended to question Tendulkar’s sportsmanship.

It is obvious that there is a huge cultural difference between the two nations. And if Gilchrist is fully aware of both, then what for did he mention this in his book?

Gilchrist's statements before and after clearly shows how he is trying to defend himself now. If Gilchrist really thought Sachin was a liar and such a bad sport, why didn't he stick to his belief? Why change his mind now that everything is out in the media? It only shows how low one can get to publicise themselves.

But all this for selling one book, Gilly?
