Finally a day which belonged to Australia. They batted well after a long time. Or so it seems. Hayden & Katich gave a good start. Their first century patnership in the 9 times they have batted together. Both scored a good fifty. But when they were starting to look dangerous, they departed. Hayden looked set for another big innings in India. But Sehwag made sure he didn't reach his 100.
Ponting also improved his record in India. He and Hayden held the Aussie innings together. Even after Hayden's dismissal, Ponting continued playing well. The way he played the spinners was impressive.
What India lacked today is that they allowed the Aussies to build partnerships. All their wickets came after a good partnership. Their top 4 batsmen made 50. Hence Aussies are still in the game, a draw that is.
For India, Sehwag looked like the best bowler. Kumble didn't look like he was bowling at Kotla. Him being wicketless is having an effect on him. The frustration is clearly visible.
The best bowler for India today was clearly Sehwag. He bowled intelligently. Used the spin and bounce in the pitch really well. He looked like taking a wicket everytime. Its really a pity that he is not used more by the Indian captains.
India still has a long way to go if they want to force a result. they will have to take the remaining 6 Aus wickets really quickly, may be within the first hour tomorrow. Then bat like they did in Mohali and then finish off the Aussies in 2 sessions on day 5. Its difficult but its possible.
Another thing of note today was the punishment handed to Gautam Gambhir. I agree what he did was not acceptable. Similarly what Watson & Katich did was also not acceptable. Watson got a 10% fine while Katich was not even called by the ref. But GG got a 1 match ban. Ridiculous. Such bias from a match referee is unacceptable. Who is responsible to keep him in check?
