Another Wall in the making...

The 2nd test between India & New Zealand may have ended in a draw. But India probably found their 2nd Wall in the making today at Napier.

It was a good ol' days test inning from Gautam Gambhir. He battled the New Zealand bowlers, he battled time & most importantly he battled his own mind.

Since the fag end of day 3 to late day 5, he batted and batted and batted and batted. He didn't go after the wide deliveries from the spinners. He didn't go down the track to pacers. He stayed there and waited and waited. There were a few scoring shots here & there which eventually took him to a century.

Probably this innings of Gambhir is the biggest positive for Indian cricket on this tour. Now we know that Gambhir is not only a talented opener who can score big runs. But he can stay there and sweat it out when needed. Hence there was no surprise when Sehwag said this:

I think Gautam played an innings of a lifetime. I can say that because hardly any player plays for almost 11 hours nowadays. He is the one who saved the game for us. I think we can call him the second Wall of the Indian cricket team. This one comes from north.

The lad is quite tough... Even though through the series, he has been scratchy at best, he somehow delivered.

What a player! And talking about intelligence, he clearly is more endowed than Sehwag.
